Expected Public Impact
Lane Closures
- Temporary night time and weekend lane closures will be required periodically in all phases of construction.
- During lane closures oversize loads must detour around the project site.
Narrowing of Lanes
- During Phases IV thru VII lane widths will be reduced to eleven (11) feet. No oversize loads will be permitted during these phases.
Blasting
- Blasting operations will occur during Phase IV.
- Both sides of the interstate will be closed during blasting and interstate cleanup.
- Blasting will be performed during the hours of 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM having less impact on daily traffic.
Increased State Trooper Presence
- Construction speed limit of 55 MPH will be heavily monitored and enforced by an increased State Trooper presence for the duration of the project
Accidents
- During Phases IV thru VII any accidents in the eastbound or westbound lanes while traffic is transferred into the median lanes will shut down that respective lane until the traffic accident is cleared.
- During Phases IV thru VII, potential problems exist for emergency vehicles accessing the accident scene.
- During all phases, the narrower lanes in conjunction with planned lane shifts may increase the likelihood of accidents.
Ramp Closures
- No ramp closures are anticipated. However, the planned closure of Cooks Springs Road during Phase II will impact the public's ability to enter I-20.
Public Delays
- As in all roadway construction projects, the public should anticipate delays especially during high congestion times during the day.
