Work continues on Interstate 20 as part of the Alabama Department of Transportation's project to widen the last four-lane segment of the roadway in St. Clair County.
Beginning around 7 p.m. on Friday, August 27, the outside lane of I-20 eastbound between miule markers 152 and 153 will be closed to rehabilitate the shoulder of the road. The lane will re-open around 6 a.m. Monday, August 30.
Motorists should expect lane shifts, slower traffic, and minor delays.
A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists may want to consider using alternate routes and adjusting arrival/departure times. Motorists should observe work-zone speed limits and other work-zone signs, and user extreme caution in this area. State troopers will control traffic and strictly enforce speed limits.

Beginning around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, weather permitting, the eastbound lane between mile markers 152 and 153 will be closed for blasting.
A rolling roadblock by Alabama state troopers will slow I-20 traffic in both directions until blasting is complete.

There will be burning of brush debris to clear right of way in the vicinity between mile post 153-155 over the next several weeks. Motorists should be aware and drive cautiously throughout the work zone obeying all posted speed limits.

Work continues on Interstate 20 as part of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s project to widen the last four-lane segment of the roadway in St. Clair County. Beginning around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, the outside lane traveling eastbound will be closed as well as the inside lane traveling westbound. The lane closures will be between mile markers 152 and 153. These lane closures are expected to be finished by midnight.

As part of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project, work on U.S. Highway 78 is currently scheduled for Wednesday, May 5. Weather permitting, traffic will be delayed in both directions in increments as road crews set girders on the Kelly Creek bridge. This construction is related to the Alabama Department of Transportation’s project to widen the last four-lane segment of the roadway in St. Clair County.

Weather permitting, a crew will be restriping the entire project area (mile marker 147.70 to 155.76) on the eastbound and westbound lanes between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on April 7 and 8. Alabama state troopers will reduce traffic to one lane while striping occurs. Motorists should expect slower traffic and minor delays.
